Radha Krishna
Mandir History
Today, we have options of going to temple of one’s choice, one’s liking, convenience, etc. However, back in the 70s, there were zero options. In fact, there were no temples. Then in 1978, a group of individuals, with vision, came together and formed a non-profit organization called Gujarati Society of Southern California and then established Radha Krishna Mandir. This Mandir was the very first Hindu temple in not just California, but as a matter of fact, on the west of Mississippi, and it was only the third Hindu temple in the U.S.
This Mandir was inaugurated by the highly revered Late Krishna Shankar Shastri. Located in the city of Norwalk, this Mandir is also now known as Norwalk Temple. As the Indian community started growing, devotees and members of this Mandir later on went on to establish other temples. But this being the Mother of all temples, members and devotees keep coming back to this temple, even though they may now be affiliated to other temples.
